California Veteran Benefits: Official Programs And Local Help
Explore verified California veteran benefit programs: property tax, education, vehicles and plates. Find official state and local contacts.
California has separate qualification rules for home-tax relief, dependent college waivers and disabled-veteran plates. A 100% rating alone does not satisfy every vehicle-plate requirement.
Each program has its own application and eligibility rules. A VA percentage alone does not establish every state benefit. This page records verified programs; an omitted category does not mean the jurisdiction has no benefit.
Property Tax In California
Disabled Veterans Property Exemption
Qualifying veterans rated 100%, or compensated at that rate for unemployability, may reduce their principal residence assessment. Basic and income-limited exemption amounts adjust annually. Certain unmarried surviving spouses also qualify. Apply to the county assessor.
Published Rating Threshold: 100% or compensation at 100% for unemployability

Vehicles And Plates In California
Disabled Veteran Plates And Fee Relief
A qualifying service-related disability can provide a registration and license-fee exemption for one owned vehicle displaying DV plates. The 100% rating pathway also requires substantial mobility impairment; limb-loss, assisted-mobility and blindness pathways are separately listed.
Published Rating Threshold: 100% with qualifying mobility impairment, or specified functional disabilities
- Replacement-document charges remain. The vehicle class and use must meet DMV rules.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does A VA Rating Automatically Enroll Me In These Programs?
No. The cited agency determines eligibility under its own requirements, which may include residency, ownership, service history, income, age, disability status and application deadlines.
Why Are Some Benefit Categories Missing?
This directory includes only facts with an identified official source. Missing categories are research gaps, not a finding that no benefit exists. Ask the official state or territorial department.
